Questions

Everything people ask before the first book.

If your question is not here, email us and we will answer it — and probably add it to this page.

Making a book

What exactly do I get?

An illustrated storybook of 8 to 12 pages, depending on the age band you choose, with your child as the main character. You read it by turning pages on your phone, tablet or computer. On the Nightlight and Storyshelf plans you can also download a print-ready PDF.

How long does one book take?

The story text appears first, usually within a minute, and you can edit any page before illustration starts. Illustrating all the pages takes a few minutes more. You can leave the page and come back — the book stays in your library.

Can I change the words?

Yes. Every page is editable before the illustrations are made, and you can rewrite as much as you like. The text is typeset by the site rather than drawn into the picture, so your edits always come out crisp and correctly spelled.

Will my child look the same on every page?

You choose a short written character setting — hair colour, hair style, outfit, and an optional companion. That description is sent with every single page so the hero stays recognisably the same throughout the book.

Can I make a sequel with the same hero?

On the Storyshelf plan, yes. The character setting is saved with the book, so a new story can start from the same hero rather than a new one.

Plans, billing and cancelling

Is the free story really free?

Yes. The Free plan gives you one story a month with a 4-page preview and a watermark, and it never asks for a card. It does not turn into a paid plan on its own, and there is no trial that quietly starts billing you.

What currency am I charged in?

All prices on this site are shown and charged in US dollars (USD). Your bank may convert that into your local currency and may add its own fee for doing so.

How do I cancel?

Cancel with one click from your account page, or email support@zinedineguillodo.shop and we will do it for you. Cancelling stops the next charge; the stories you have already paid for stay available until the end of the month you paid for. We do not ask you to phone anyone or to explain yourself.

Can I get a refund?

If something has gone wrong — the books will not generate, you were charged twice, you were charged after cancelling — email support@zinedineguillodo.shop within 14 days and we will refund you. The full conditions are on the refund and cancellation page.

Do unused stories roll over?

No. Each month's allowance starts fresh and unused stories do not carry into the next month. We say this here rather than burying it, because it is the sort of thing that annoys people later.

Children, privacy and safety

Do you need a photo of my child?

No, and we will not accept one. There is no image upload anywhere on this site. The hero's appearance comes entirely from the written description you pick.

What do you do with my child's name?

It is used to write and typeset the book, and it is stored with that book so you can re-read it. We do not sell it, we do not use it to train any model, and you can delete a book, and its name with it, whenever you like.

Is this site for children to use?

No. Talewick is for adults — parents, grandparents, guardians and family friends. Accounts are for people aged 18 or over, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Can I ask for a character from a film or a famous picture book?

No. Characters and worlds that belong to someone else are blocked at the input stage, and so are real trademarks. Describe the idea instead — a brave mouse, a friendly blue dog — and you will get something that is genuinely yours.

AI, rights and refusals

Is the book made by AI?

Yes, and we say so everywhere. The story text and the illustrations are generated by AI models. The page layout and all of the typesetting are done by this site. Every file you download carries a machine-readable AI marker in its metadata, and every book states it on the final page.

Who owns the book?

You do, for the uses described in the terms. Paid plans include commercial use of the books you generate; the Free plan is for personal use only. We do not claim ownership of the stories you make.

Do you use my stories to train models?

No. Content you create here is not used as training data.

Why does the site refuse some of the things I type?

Because it is a children's bedtime book. Violence, horror, adult themes, identity documents, real people's faces and imitations of named living artists are all refused before anything is generated, and the form tells you which word caused it.
